Which car do you guys think would be more fun to own and drive.

a bone stock 427-390 horse 69 Roadster, totally unrestored 60,000 original miles, eng. recently rebuilt, balanced, bored, decked, blueprinted. Car close to immaculate, but is a driver. Daytona Yellow, black guts and tops. M-21 4spd.

or

a totally amazing 70 Roadster, that has been pro built with flared fenders, and side pipes, built to LT-1 and ZR-1 specs. It is black, on black.

one car I own, the 69. I want to hot rod it, paint it black, etc... but I hate to destroy the value of such a pristine car. the 70 I may be able to trade for.
Maybe the 70 and a little cash for my 69. then I could add aditional mods to the 70 to make it a show stopper and not worry about originality.

Any advice?

 

Keep the 69 as is. If you want a racer find yourself an old crapper and build it the way you want. It will probably save you some money this way.

I'm with spiru...Don't ruin the originality of the '69. Keep it and buy you something to build.

From your title "which is cooler?"....In my opinion the original '69!!

The modified 70 is the one that I would want.

 

We'll I kinda' disagree with the others. I don't see why you can't make the '69 exactly what you want. I'm doing the same type of thing with my '68, but I'm not doing anything radical to the body. The original numbers matching drivetrain is going into long-term hibernation. No way am I selling this car, so I'm not really worried about originality. I won't sacrifice this car for "fast cash", just like I wouldn't cash in a 401k. Think long term! Frankly, the thought of my car becoming an NCRS trailer queen makes me ill...

How long will you keep the car? My decision would also be heavily biased by the condition of the cars. Is one better than the other? There will, most likely, be *suprises* with a car you haven't owned before.

Nothing beats the "wow" factor of a 60's big block, so I really think you should stick with that formula since you already have a "close to immaculate" specimen in your garage. I thought about buying a second Vette to modify, but no matter how much I work on it, it still won't be a '68 chrome bumper big block (which, for me, is the ultimate C3.)

You've also got a big block, which is nice when you're going for *affordable* engine mods. You'll spend a ton of time and money on the LT-1, and still only be where most semi-mild big blocks live HP wise... You can make 500+ HP easy with the parts you've already got (with a little work.) Try that with an LT-1 ;) ...L-36's are SUPER mild.

To answer your original question: In my highly biased opinion, a modified big block '69 is much more desirable than a flared out small block.

:seeya It's your car do what you want to do! :yesnod: You did ask for our input so; those people that have org. un-touched cars will tell you "Don't Touch It" and those of us that love "Custom and Mods" are going to say go ahead and make the changes you like. ;) Just do what would make YOU happy! But how many times do people go to shows and the car that is tastefully customized gets a great deal of attention. :D :cool: :cheers:

I was just thinking the same thing. The only time people at shows really notice my car is when they're checking out the tripower, and it's not even original to my car! :lol: :lol:

 

Flareside and Intimidator454 are dead on here! When I go to local cruise-ins and shows, I'm usaully one of few or the only BB car there and the combination of the L88 hood and the sound of my chambered exhaust gets all of the attention. Nothing against SB cars with tasteful mods, but there is nothing like the potential of a big block! IMO, keep the original stuff in boxes and get better heads, intake, cam, carb, maybe some Hooker sidemounts, etc. and you'll walk over any small block and will be having fun with the vipers and BMR M5s out there which no SB C3 vette can touch unless a whole lot of $$s have been spent (please, no flames!). Despite all of this, if you do decide to trade, I would expect to get LOTS of money in such a trade! Another option is sell your car outright as an original and find a NOM BB vert in comparable condition for less $$ and mod away! Either way, do what YOU want to do! :cheers:
