Default Tire noise

I am a new 76 owner and hear a rumbling noise sounding like it is coming from the back tires. These are not stock and are wider on Cheviot rims. Now not knowing what a C3 sounds like can you hear your tires a fair bit or is this a sign of serious problems. It sounds like I am running over a million tiny speeed bumps?

Different tires and different tread designs will produce different sounds. Some tires are designed to run quieter...at the expense of poorer performance [usually]. Other possibilities are that one [or more] wheels are out of alignment or there is a wheel bearing starting to fail (or running dry). C3's are NOT quiet cars. Many owners put sound absorbing materials under the carpeting to reduce 'road' noise.

Try throughing another tire (spare tire maybe) on the driver side rear. If the sound changes then its the tires. If not, a bearing maybe going. My 75 had road noise, then I installed a real exhaust never heard it again.

If your muffelers are stock your still running pretty quiet but try the tire swap. If it doesn't change it is most likely a bearing and if it is, you want to fix it now rather than later$$$

Just an update that this was indeed my rear bearings although when spun the tire by hand I didn't hear any grinding what so ever.
