I had the smog pump removed from my 69 for years before I moved to CA with no problems. Removed complete assembly (pump & hoses) and the small tubes in the exhaust manifolds. Used small pipe plugs in the exhaust manifolds.

It's against the law to remove emissions equipment. Should you get caught, you will be subjected to a healthy fine...that said, my stuff has been removed from day one...

Also, if your community conducts EPA tests, your car won't pass emissions.

I have one 81 that has it all off with a non functioning computer. A couple of weeks ago I bought another 81 that still has all the stuff on it. I might want to take it all off though. If it is taken off, what about all the electrical crap associated with it? What can you abandon etc that will still let the computer function? Or do you need to do away with that also. In the 81 with everything out, I did find wires in the harness that were looped back. Is all this necessary. Thanks, Darrel

The only wrinkle in that plan is it is an 82, which may or may not make any difference. Any other year and I would say go for it without hesitation.

You can remove all the smog crap with out affecting the computer at all. Do not remove the O2 sensor. Make sure there are no open vacuum hoses. That harness has the wires to the electric fan and the temp. sensor for the fan (on pass. side head), do not disconnect them.
