Default 70 Vert Header SS Trim, How To Remove.

Needing some expert advice on removing the Stainless Steel corner trim on top of the windshield header bar.

Was attempting to remove the corner trim & it's not moving as I had expected. Looks like the corner trim piece fitting into the center trim piece might have some old sealent on it. Was looking at the AIM and cant tell if this top trim innerlocks with the windshield glass trim. If the two use a clip and the windshield trim has to be removed first, then I will abort this mission and just replace the plastic bushing and polish the SS the best I can and call it a day.
I'm not going to take a chance of breaking my front windshield.
Any advice will be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Glenn,
That's a tough piece to get off.
The two long pieces of SS header trim must come off first. AND... to get the first long thin piece of SS header trim off, the SS windshield A-pillar trim ends to be loosened at the top. You can see in your picture where the the long thin piece of trim goes under the trim on the A-pillar.
Once you get the SS trim off the header, the trouble really starts, because the corner trim, which is CHROME plated , has 2 screws in the FRONT that are mostly hidden by the top edge of the windshield itself. Sometimes you can get at the screws with a very thin Phillips screwdriver but you take a BIG chance because if the SHAFT of the screwdriver puts too much pressure on the EDGE of the glass you CRACK the windshield. AND THIS HAPPENS!!!
That piece is held on by 5 screws... 2 front, 2 rear, 1 top.
SAD BUT TRUE!!!!
Regards,
Alan

Thank you very much for the information. I was ever so gently trying to lift the top header piece and then the corner piece but could tell there was a bind at the front next to the glass. I was only able to move it maybe a quarter of an inch then backed away with caution.
So at this time I will leave it alone then down the road when I paint the car I'll attack the job again.
For my own information I was looking at page 1ASM-F4, & F-8 thur F-11. Is there a better reference in the AIM that best describes this header trim?
Thanks again.

Hi Glenn,
In my 71 AIM the clearest information for the coupe is on UPC 1, Sheet F 11, and for the convertible UPC 1, Sheet F 12.
In both cases you kinda have to know what's going on and look really carefully to realize there are 5 screws. And... of course it doesn't give a hint how easy it is to crack the windshield.
Regards,
Alan

I've heard horror stories on this site about the very same thing and thats why I was very cautious while poking around. Glad I stoped when I did.
With some Mothers polish and a load of elbow grease and new bushings for the top pins I can live with that.
Thanks, I feel you just saved me 400.00 plus in a new windshield.
