Should be a bolt in swap from your 350 why not just use you 350 water pump if it's good, if not you need a short style corvette water pump sold at umpteen million places. Yes there is plenty of info on forum just do an advance search for 383 swap or water pump. What's a dizzy?

Hmmm... don't know why you'd wanna use ANYthing from the old cooling system on a new motor. I have always installed a NEW radiator, hoses, t'stat and pump in every car I've ever put a motor into.

Maybe parts are more expensive and harder to get in kangaroo-land. Essentially I agree with you though. The only thing I am reusing is the radiator. If I had to go back in and change the water pump 3 months after this swap, I would be so annoyed.

Go back and read the question Droshki. He didn't ask about re-using the water pump, only the distributor...

I did not know that drizzy was a distributor, learn something new every day. And I didn't see that you that you were from down under. But if Jeg's ships there they have a aluminum shot style chevy water pump for $89.99 US.
Many people will swear up and down on what water pump the have and that it's the best and you can spend 3 times that on a pump But this is good pump at a reasonable price.

Default dist drive gear GM p/n 10456413

If you are installing a genuine GMPP 383 crate ... it has GM roller cam ... and requires correct "melonized" distributor drive gear. Yes you can use your original 1980 vette HEI distributor but you should first replace its drive gear with melonized drive gear GM p/n 10456413. Suggest you also smear drive gear teeth with some assembly lube just prior to installing dist into motor. Do likewise on cam-side of fuel pump rod.

Also ... if you're using vette accessories, brackets & pulleys ... you need a "vette" pump ... MOST short pumps do NOT have same length as vette pump ... their lengths are similar but enough difference to cause nagging belt alignment problems. Your old OE vette pump will fit fine but I strongly suggest a new one. Get a new pump to match your year brackets & pulleys.

Are you going to use the stock fuel pump and radiator?

I wasnt answering the original question, I was responding to SanDiegoPaul.

I am also installing a 383 in my 1980. The ZZ383 I bought came with a long style water pump so I have to swap it with a short style. The last water pump I bought was from a local auto parts store. You might try that to save some money.

What exhaust and carb are you going to go with? I am considering going to true dual exhaust and keeping my Qjet. Any suggestions?
