Hey MoMo;

Any ideas on who makes such a converter? Looking, I only found one
that had 2" openings (but 4 of them.) Next closest was 3 openings.
Othere than that, getting a 3" and 2 Y's would be the next closest.

My question is:

What inspection mechanic is going to fail a Corvette if it has DUAL exhaust with DUAL catalytic converters??????????????

why not put the stock exhaust on, pass thru inspection, then put on your duals?? pain in the butt but better than failing insp.
same problem here in NY until the car is 25 years old. must have all the original stuff.

I attended a very good car show here (Odessa) about two years ago and noticed something interesting.....only about 15-20% of the cars being displayed even had an inspection sticker. Granted, these cars are driven relatively little, and primarily in West Texas, it started me thinking. I drive my 77 only on the "good days", and I have "true duals", no cat, so I thought
what the hell. The windshield looks a lot better without another damn sticker, also.
Could be that we are so far removed from the balance of the State, and the biggest concern here is the daily posting for West Texas Intermediate, that
it really is no big deal, especially for special interest vehicles.
Good luck.....mox

Was most of them registered as Antique. Cars registered as Antique in Texas do not have any inspection and do not have the registration sticker on the windshield. One of my cars is registered as Antique and I love that clean windshield.

Tom,

What's the procedure and requirements for registering as an Antique in Texas? I couldn't find any info on the DPS site.

When the new testing goes in to affect in May they're suppose to change the waivers to include a low mileage wavier (<5000 driven miles per year). My question is would they hand out this waiver if you aren't able to pass the underhood visual due to parts tampering (like no dual snorkel, EGR, etc.)? Any thoughts or additional info?

What about once your past the 24 year requirement for emissions testing, do you still have to pass the underhood visual?

Car must be 25 years old and useage is highly restricted, "exhibitions, club activities, parades, or other functions of public interest and in no case for regular transportation". Cost is $50.30 but the registration is for 5 years. No safety or emission inspection.

Check this site for more info: http://www.dot.state.tx.us/insdtdot/...te.asp?antique

Luckly here in Austin we do not yet have emission testing :D , but it may be coming shortly :( . One of my 73s is registered as a normal car and they do pop the hood and look. But it does not have the A.I.R. installed and no one ever says anything.

Tom,

Thanks for the link. I assume driving to and from club events on public roads is ok?

I haven't looked around recently for much in way of cats; am too involved in IRS(it's done, I rebuilt them!) and next transmission(drops out of second gear on decel.) But random technology had some also. I thought dynomax had 2", 2 1/2" and 3" dual inlet/outlet cats. I also figured it would solve the balance pipe issue; because it should be about the right distance. the cross member hole location for driver side looked like a problem.

Here's another site to look at: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/ I picked up a form from my local tax office and it does say that the body, frame and engine need to be 25 years or older. I don't know if they really check on the engine, but mine is a 1990 model and I don't have my original.

Sounds good.
Are you getting stopped by the police/Hwy. Patrol w/ the Antique plates?

Just don't drive it to work or for regular trans and you should be okay.

I'm not real clear on what the advantage to the antique plates would be beyond only having to renew them every three years. If the dicey part of the inspections is the emissions, then a 25year old car is exempt anyway, isn't it?

With the Antique plates you pay only $50 for five years ($10/year) so you save money there. No emission testing (but as you said a car 25 years or older is not required to have an emission test for licensing). And no safety inspection. It is designed for car collections and car collectors, kind of like the collector car insurance companies. Not for cars that are drivers. Just a reduction in cost and hassle.
