Default Suspension questions

I joined the forum a few months ago after getting my first vette this past summer and haven't posted before. Anyway i picked up a 75 that is in rough shape. it's fun to drive, but I'm sure was driven hard. I am hoping to slowly make improvements and learn as I go.

One thing I've noticed is that all the bushings are shot, among all its other issues. I'm pretty sure they are the original bushing, as are the rest of the suspension components. I've been leaning toward getting the VB&P Grand Touring kit, especailly with the sale they are having, but have also thought of the Street/Slalom kit or the performance plus system since I'm sure i'll have to get a front end rebuild kit anyway. I live in Alaska, so our roads are realively rough and i'm sure my vette will never see a track, so i'm not sure if the stiffer springs woudl be worth it, or if having the ability to adjust everything would ever be used. I also don't really know how any of these compare to my original suspension, other than i know they would be an improvment.

I've seen that most people have been happy with whatever they have chosen, but i thought i'd see if there were any recomendations and if anyone though the SS springs were too stiff and if the performance plus system was worth the extra cash. I'm also pretty sure there have been posts with these questions before, but i ididn't see them when i searched. Maybe i didn't look hard enough.

the 75 i bought was originally a 350 car, but I was told now has a 383. It also started as an auto, but had a 4 speed put in. it has 295s on the rear with fender flares and 265s on the front. This was all done a long time before i got the car. It was also put into the ditch sometime before i bought it and will eventually need new paint to take out a bunch of skratches on the hood and other chips and nicks in the paint. The list goes on and i'm sure it will be work in progress for quite a while, as i'm sure most are.

So any input from people who have tried these packages would be great. Maybe i'll give vbandp a call to see what they say, though i'm sure they would recommend the more exspensive package.

Thanks for any input,
Eric

My advice is to stick with the stock suspension and rebuild it. Ride comfort has it's place.

You will get posts about installing poly bushings...it's a personal preference, poly vs rubber...

Do a search on suspension, in fact there is a thread dealing with rubber vs. poly right now...

Welcome to the forum.

I put the performance plus package from VBP on my '79 and the ride is great. Night and day difference between it and the original suspension. It was relative easy to install and well worth the money I spent on it. I bought it while it was on sale also.
