Default Lower Shock mount installation

Merry Christmas to all
Looking for some advice on lower shock mount installation. I have removed and had rebuilt my trailing arms, wheel spindles etc. In the process, I removed my strut rods and have rebushed them. The lower shock mount was a bear to remove and I had to sledge hammer it out.
I used a cap nut so the threads were well protected and I cleaned up the mounts.
Not much information on re-installation is available in any of the books I've looked at. Do they get pressed back in? If not, how do they maintain there position to steady the shock. I would have thought there would be a drift key of sorts to lock them in position.

Any help from Santa would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is a flat spot on the shaft to keep it in alignment...

Yep.

If you look closely, there is a "D" shape to the shaft that installs in the corresponding "D" shaped hole in the spindle support.

They also have little gnarled flutes on one end. They'll only install one way correctly.

A lot of time the D flat is rounded in the support. Sometimes they're so bad they won't align the mount, this is not too common but check them. Also the LH mount may tend to angle downward once torqued in place if there is some play in the support. When installing the LH side have a help hold it in place or support it while torquing so it doesn't angle down.
If you have new supports check them too as some of them are not machined correct.
