Default TH 350 filter change

I'm going to change the filter on my transmision and would like to know what type of gasket sealer to use. I haven't seen anything posted on this yet and have been checking for quite a while. Thanks in advance for any answers. I can't get over all of the information available on this site.

Don't use any sealer. If the rail of your pan is flat and you install it correctly, it won't leak. I've done it this way on my 77 several times.

youll get mixed results but the way to install it is dry. usually you hand tigthen them but i think from reading here that the tourq specs are 13-15 lbs dont over tighten them that will warp the pan and you will be starting all over again.

Run it for a week an retighten. Use 2 fingers on the ratchet (don't overtighten)

Exactly! Never, no let me rephrase that; NEVER use sealer on a trans pan gasket!

At the very most use 3 or four small dabs of 3M weatherstrip adhesive to hold the gasket in place on the trans before you install the pan. Otherwise, just lift the pan up into position with a couple bolts thru the gasket. Make sure the pan rails are absolutely FLAT and everything is CLEAN before you put it back together.

I would use a few blobs of grease before I used any sealer on a transmission pan. If you use a GM filter kit the gasket is flat instead of folded, I recommend that. You don't need any sealer then.
