Default Heater Core

I was just informed that me heater core on a 69 vette 350/300 is leaking. Can someone help me thru this replacement. I want to give this a try myself and can't find any directions. Does it get removed from the inside or outside. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

good luck man, you are going to need it. i tried mine and gave up.
depending on wether or not you have AC determines the level of difficulty apparently. mine required the right side dash, center bezel, all the duct work and finally the heater box. i had to put it all back together unfinished because the heater core i bought leaked too when i tested it.

i ended up just splicing the hoses and garaging it until summer.

there are some tech articles posted here with some pretty decent pics and the like. you just have to search around

If you have A/C then this is what has to be done...and more.

You might find this article useful.

If you don't have A/C, it'll be a piece of cake. If you do, it's not that hard, just time consuming because it has to come out from the interior.

I just did this on a 76. I dont think that AC makes it anymore difficult, but that might not be true in your situation.

All the advice given above is good. It is not technically hard, but it is time consuming. I used one afternoon to take it out and another afternoon to put it back in. You will know how to completely disassemble your dash when you are done.

I used this as a guide: http://www.corvettemagazine.com/content/view/81/
I would skip the seal kit from ZIP unless you are truly ****. I just used some D shaped foam gasket material I had laying around to freshen up seals that were shot.

Also I got my heater core through AutoZone, much cheaper, $35 I think

when you get the core out, take it to your friendly radiator repair place and have them recore it.

As Avette4me said, if you don't have air conditioning, it's very easy. Without A/C, you can do it all from within the engine compartment. I picked up a replacement at AutoZone (some people don't like theirs, but mine has been in the car for about 5 years now with no problems). Also go ahead and replace the heater hoses while you're at it. You'll need a section of 5/8" and a section of 3/4", if I remember correctly.

Somewhere online are a set of instructions for the non-air cars, but it's really straightforward, nothing tricky about it.

Good luck!

Just did my 76 w/ ac; not hard just time consuming. I took a couple of afternoons to complete. I agree with droshki, don't buy the seal kit you can get the ws you need for allot less elsewhere.
Just remember to hook the vac. lines to the plenum actuator b4 you remount the box to the firewall. It's really hard to hook them up blind, ask me how I know this.
Good luck
