Hi, my ignition switch is hanging up slightly ( more so now that its cold), and I was wondering if there is anything i can spray around the cylinder to loosen it up without messing up any electrical connections in the steering column.
I wonder if someone has "lubricated" your lock cylinder in the past. That lubricant may be more viscous with cold temperatures. I have been told that "one drop" of synthetic engine oil on the tip of your ignition key is all that is required.
Of course you may need to get the old gunk out of the lock cylinder first. I would think that pulling the lock cylinder and spraying it with some WD40 may eliminate the old stuff. Then one drop of engine oil. I wouldn't just spray the cylinder while it is in the column because the old lubricant would leak down into the column itself.
Other people have suggested a dry graphite based lubricant.
I'm not sure I explianed it right. The key goes in and out no problem, when I turn the key to start the car it kind of hangs up before springing back. I'll try a drop of oil on the key. Thanks
Now thats different symptom, you may need to adjust the Ignition swith which is conneted to the Lock, via a Rod, Ignition switch is made to be adjustable.
You probale need to adjust the switch position, 69VETT
