What year did the corvette have the recessed headlights instead of the pop ups? I have seen a few in my life and wonder what year they are. Looks to be late 70s?
None...from 82 to the end of the C5 production (2004) all "factory" Corvette's had pop up headlights.
Incorrect, in fact from 63-67 the mid-years, they were on the leading edge of the body and rotated 180* to show the lights....
in 68-82 they had the vacuum pop up assys.....
many of the 68-82 (sharks) over the years have had a so called Ecklers conversion, as had mine....done on account of hitting a really small (by yankee standards) Florida deer at night, and taking out both headlight mechanisms....later on the larger square bulbs looked really dated to me, and so put in newer lower profile late Camaro bulbs....glass lenses....
I believe the idea grew from the late 60s-early70s road race cars.
RRV would know just what cars had them. I think they had clear plex-i-glass covers then.
Regards,
Alan

Yes, that is where the concept came from ok, and someof them used the round stockish shaped bulbs, set back further and so needed a double hump cover over them and they did have plexi over the top/front....even the Ecklers had a plexi option for their sugar scoop conversion...I think that whole thing was Ralph's first project, if the story I heard is correct.....
the FIA lights (two fixed round headlights per side with bubbled clear plastic lenses) where actually a GM part they provided to the race teams as part fo the race package...along with the fender flares and sidepipes. You see them on many of the old race cars , i.e the Owens Corning cars , Greenwood cars, the #4 Le Mans car, the #57 rebel car etc etc.
Right now I am in a town called Crystal river. I travel all over FL for work and stay in various places. I was in West palm for 5 months before I came here and spend my days off in ormond beach with my GF.
