There should already be a brass filter in the carburetor inlet so the external filter isn't really necessary.

Hey guys anybody got any info on this previous message about 11" belhousings?

"I am finding used originals for $50-$150 on ebay. But I'm also finding conflicting info on there.. do you know if 697, 621, 444 are all the same? and will work for what I need? are there any other #s I can use for 11" clutch/flywheel? is any one better than another?"

I'm on ebay now and just saw another different number that is suppose to fit 11" big block corvette... also I would like to ad to this.. how do you tell the difference between a original part and a repop? A web site I saw repop's for sale made it sound like they look exactly the same.

you all almost have this trans built.. lol i have parts coming and rounding up the rest.

I think you can use GM #3872444, GM #3899621, or GM #464697 for the large clutch setup on your car. "621" is technicaly correct but the others will fit fine.

Hey everybody... does anybody know what could be different on these muncie transmissions as far as shifters are concerned? I'm taking the advice I got in here to get a hurst comp plus shifter and kit. the shifter itself is the same number for 68 & 71 but there are 3 different install kits for those applications, none of which really fit my combination for sure that I can tell. all the differences I can find in the info online seems to all be on the inside with gears ratio/shaft sizes/gear pitch ect.
all the pictures look the same. the only external difference I can find are with the shifter levers being bolt on and stud type. I read the bolt on replaced the stud type for strenght. but the shifter linkage fits on the shafts/levers the same either way, they all have a slot with a hole. any ideas?

71coupe454 if you have the part numbers for the installation kits, look them up on the Summit Racing web site and see whats different about them. One may be for a three speed trans.

Summit adds HUU- in front of the Hurst part numbers so it's not too hard to locate them.

the kit that you used, 3738611, is listed for a late m-21 and theres a 3734648 thats listed for a early m-21. and mine is a early m-20.. they dont ever list m-20 or even show one on the trans id. pdf. but like I said before, I cant find/see any difference in any of them, early/late m-20, 21, 22.. except for the gears/guts and bolt on or stud shift levers..
the only difference I can see in the two kits is the one you used comes with 2 reverse rods and the reverse lever has little extra piece sticking off it. the plates and shift rods look the same..

My transmission is an M20 from November 71. I don't think you'll find any difference in the casings for the various Muncie transmissions that were used in the late 60s - early 70s Corvettes. Maybe if you go to the Hurst web site you can download a copy of the installation sheet it will allay your concerns about the shifter location relative to the opening in the floor.

BTW, if you can't find the installation sheet, msg me and I'll post it.

ok I re-read everything and did a little more checking.. I am just going go with the Forum wisdom here and hope for the best. Summit racing guy emailed me back today and said he had no idea if the 68 kit would work on a 71 or not. He told me to call hurst and see if they know, then he gave me the B&M division phone number.... I got my 11" flywheel, clutch kit & starter today, got some bids going on a 621, gonna get the shifter ordered and then work on that long list of clips, pins, bolts ect that was posted earlier. thanks again for all of you guy putting in your 2 cents worth.
