Default Actual differences in timing cover

OK, Ive seen threads on this subject- the 1969 350/350hp timing cover uses a welded tab. Im getting told that the base 300hp does too.

Whats the difference? Anyone have pictures of both? Can they be used interchangeably?

Hi VB5869,
All I can offer is that the 68-69 Tech Guide only mentions that the tabs are welded to the timing cover, are rectangular with a triangular extension from the base attaching to the timing cover. There is a 'Y' shaped bead on that extension.
There's no mention of variations for C.I. or H.P.. But since the 350HP uses a 8" damper and the 300HP a 6" damper I'd think the covers aren't interchangable and the tab might vary from one to the other since it's welded on.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan- I agree with your opinion. I was hoping some of the parts hounds around here might have comparative photos...

The tabs are the only difference. I've cut tabs off several so I could use a bigger dampner. GM makes bolt on tabs. THe only ones that are a problem are the late dampners that have the keyway and the "0" mark 10* apart. They're designed to be seen by going behind the water pump with the timing light.

No pictures out there?

I'd love to see one next to the other.

Id still like to see a side by side of an original 300 hp vs an original 350 hp.
