I was replacing my water pump, and broke one of the bolts. I've drilled out the old bolt (after first trying an easy out and having it snap also), and am ready to install the heli coil.
I've never used a heli coil before, the kit that I picked up, the heli coils are only about 7 threads deep, is this enough/normal, or are there other inserts that are longer/deeper that I need to use?

I have used Heli-Coil's before. If installed right, they work fine.
On water pump bolts, I believe they have a shank. Make sure that you measure how far the shank goes through the pump flange. If you can not see the shank coming out the back side of the flange, just insert the Heli-Coil 2 - 3 turns below the front face of the block.
If you can see the shank coming out the back side of the pump flange, measure the amount of flange sticking out, insert the Heli-Coil to that depth and add 2 - 3 turns so it won't bottom out on the shank before the pump is tight to the block.
