wiper motor to linkage interface
What is that slot for? Does it prevent the linkage from slipping as the motor rotates or does it serve as an adjustment?
So would the correct fix be to put two flats on the threaded shaft of the motor or to drill a bigger hole in the linkage? If I have to make a flat, how are they oriented on the motor when it is in the park position?
Your assumptions about the shaft are correct.
My 71 Chassis Service Manual shows the wiper motor drive shaft has the two flat seats in the shaft just below where the round threaded portion of the shaft ends. The crank arm has the opposite shape to seat on the shaft, and the nut holds the arm in place.

Alan
PS:The flat areas on the shaft are parallel to the plate on the base of the shaft that has the drive pawl and lock pawl mechanism attached to it.
