Is there some trick to it, or am I just missin the obvious. it looks to me like I have to take the other belts off to install the Alternator Belt, is this the case???
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (Warp70)
Most of the time you must remove the belts installed forward of the one you are replacing, but it depends on what other accessories and drive belts you have.
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (SharkAttack)
The only one in my way is the one going to the power steering pump. How do I get that off? Is their an adjustment screw for the PS pump that will let me remove the belt???
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (Warp70)
Yes there is a bolt that allows the water pump to pivot when it is loosened.
The bolt should be on the underside of the pump, loosen it and tilt the pump toward the the crank pulley and the belt should slip off. Then you just have to work it up and over the fan.

I found the bolt and shifted the PS pump forward as much as it would go, but I still cant get the belt off. Their was only about 1' left to adjust and it still fairly tight on the pulley. Should I kill myself now or what...... :mad :mad :mad
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (Warp70)
Actually now that I stop to think about it it does`nt even go over the fan does it? Just from the crank pulley to the PS pump. Try to get that last inch out of it. Worst case cut it and buy a new one, it`s only money right?
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (EarnIt)
Your right. The alternator belt only cost me $3.19, but if I cut the old one.......how will I get the new one on since I can't adjust the PS pump anymore. It will solve one problem, but create another :smash: :smash: :smash:
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (Warp70)
Just went to the garage and looked. Crawl underneath that sucker and look at the back of the pump. You should see a nut at the top with a slotted hole and a nut at the bottom that the pump pivots on, try loosening both of these and see if that helps. good luck

Thanks for the help guys. I got the PS belt off, put on the Alternator Belt, then put the PS belt back on...........The alternator belt is too long :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad I will try to purchase a shorter one, but it's this after market alternator bracket for headers that is creating all of the problems now. The alignment is not the same as it was with the old alternator bracket that was attached to the ram horns. :bs
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (Warp70)
Glad you were able to get the PS belt off. Thought I was going to have to drive to Orlando away from all this NY snow. Got a foot of it on Sat. Guess the vette sits for another 2-3 months. Oh well at least my to do list is getting shorter.

I bought a nice Chrome one at Pep boys for 8 bucks...Just to dress up the engine some more..It works fine however so did my stock one
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (Warp70)
I just replaced my alternator belt today, IT SUCKED. I had to remove all of the bolts from my power steering pump to get enough slack to remove the belt. I loosened the bolt on the back and it would not slide at all. Anyway, glad that only took about two hours.
Re: How do I replace the Alternator belt??? (Maurice)
It is one of my least favorite things to do, but now that I have moved it back and forth twenty times, it moves pretty freely. Congrats on getting it done in two hours, it should take less time in the future.....now that your a pro! :smash:
