Default gas tank advice needed

Hey guys,

I had to replace the rubber fuel lines on top of the tank so that I can pass smog (if that was the correct fix) and I spent all day today putting it back together, my friend and I could not get the passenger side strap on if our lives depended on it. So i have the tank in right now, drivers side strap attached and the tank crossmember bolted in tight. I had to order the filter sock and sending unit gasket so I have not had my car for over a month, i've been borrowing a car from my parents in the interim so I'd like to just be done with it. (plus i only have about a week before my smog extension has expired and I'm totally boned by the dmv). Is the car safe to drive like it is? I'd like to just cruise it on down to my mechanic and let them handle the strap, plus i need to smog test and see if the new fuel lines fixed the issue of not passing smog. Don't get me wrong, I prefer to work on my own car but at this point I just need to get it handled so I can give my parents their car back and work on other things. Any advice on this would be really appreciated. Thanks.

If the strap that's on is holding the tank snug I certainly think you're O.K. to drive to your mechanic.

I have a question about these straps too while people are at it, no offense. I some how managed to get both mine back on when I was done with the tank, but it seems that its not set in the same place as it was when I took it out. When you open the gas lid, the nozzle isn't in the center and is more towards the bumper. My gas isn't showing up on the gauge either unless the cars on a slope. Is this because the tank is set wrong?

P.S. Also can't get the black plastic spare tire rack on because the sending unit hits it.

Yeah...just don't put any gas in it though...

It's not sitting correctly. Loosen it back up and get it in correctly.
