Default spreader bars

I've been reading up a lot from old posts about spreader bars. But it looks like 99% of the folks that have them have the SPAL electrical fans (high $$$) so they have plenty of room for the bolt-on spreader bars. Does anybody have a bolt-on solution for original fans+shrouds?

I've seen the weld ones, but I can't weld (no equipment, no experience) and would like to find a bolt-on solution.

ALSO: most folks seem to run the Sharkbars in the back to stabilize their verts. (Again with the high $$$). I don't need to hook up 5 pt. racing harnesses. Does anybody make a spreader bar for the back that would just bolt to the same location as the Sharkbar? This would seem like a cheap way to get the same benefit - stiffen the front, why not stiffen the back?

Once you get the position for the brackets, mark the angle iron, and take the pieces to any welding shop. They'll probably bang it out for you right there for about 20 bucks.

Not gonna happen. TOO many variables.

Buy a weld version, drive the car to an exhaust shop...because they do inexpensive welding...and have them measure and weld it in place. They are also very good at measuring and making sure things fit in tight places.

So what exactly are the variables? Did the spacing/size/shape of the fan shroud change alot during the C3 years?

DurangoBoy: I'm thinking I'm liking your idea alot. This might be a good route to go.

I am having trouble finding the steel bar and parts to make the stock fan spreader bar,, best to E-mail berniesvette about getting the parts. The sharkbar above is the eqv of a rear spreader bar, but runs in at around 5 bills. almost better to just do a partial cage.

Actually this is cheaper than I've seen sharkbars before, but *still*! That's why I'm surprised somebody doesn't make one just for stability. How many of us really run 5 pt. harnesses? How many would really like to (cheaply) firm up our verts? I would guess more. Still some more investigating I guess.

I bought an 18" threaded aluminum hex bar and two (right and left thread) heim joints with nuts on Ebay, some 2" angle iron from Ace Hardware and designed and built mine with power tools (drill, Sawzall, bench grinder). Fits great with stock fan all for about $60.

God bless, Sensei
