I am getting a 1987 or later 350 4 bolt stroker 383 w/ a one piece rear main and roller cam ready. I seen the adapters on the internet. My question is, does chevy machine the block, drill and tap the screw holes and fit the block w/ this adapter like seal from the factory?
I don't understand your question. Are you saying that you want to convert your 1 piece seal block to a 2 piece design so you can change the seal with the transmission in place?

You need the adapter if you are using a block that is made for the single seal with a crank that requires the two seals....no machining is required as the adapter fits in the block..
What I want to say is, do the 1987 and newer blocks w/ a one piece rear main seal come new from Chevy w/ the adapter type seal already installed for the one piece main seal?

You won't need any adapters or anything like that. The block is a 1 piece rear main seal block so all included hardware and seal is designed for that block. There's a ring that houses the seal, that bolts to the block over the back of the crank. It's all designed that way stock so you won't have to worry with adapters or machining.
DB He wants to use his 350 crank in this new block. Object is to internally balance using his existing internals and later be able to buy an internally balanced 2 piece style 383 aftermarket crank and upgrade to roller cam. Saves having to change flywheel and balancer and the internal balance stroker crank is cheaper in 2 piece than one piece.
Al, all you need is the adapter. The newer block will accept the adapter and you use all your existing hardware. Good move going to this block with your present and future plans.

Wow I guess I totally missed the old crank part of the question. That would have made a lot more sense to me and I'm sorry I misunderstood.

You use the old style, two piece seal with the adapter...
