Default What would you do with $2000???

Within the next few weeks I'll be buying a C3, probably a mid-late 70's model with the stock L82 :).
I eventually want a high horsepower fuel injected daily driver - I've been told that a TPI setup and L82 build-up is cheaper and more productive than an LT1 swap.Concentrating solely on performance - if you had $2000 to spend what would you buy and why?

I have to assume you are a 'roll your own' kind of guy, like myself....
and can doyour own wiring/computer install, top end mechanicals, etc...
and maybe can change the tranny to an O/drive unit....
those are the main things to do to improve performance and fuel economy...
the injection alone is certainly worth the troubles, the o/drive is maybe not depending on amount/type of driving....

I'm flattered Gene but I can't even change my own oil :( I am learning tho... :D But most of my friends in my Z28 club know about SBC's so I shouldn't have too many problems with the labour aspect...

2000 eh!
Well if my engine wasn't built for the performance I wanted it would all go there.
But for me since I just finished the rebuild. I would purchase an Edelbrock fuel injection system and have a hot rod with good manners.

Sorry, but if I had an extra $2000 and was buying an old Vette, I save the money to fix all the little things that need to be fixed first. We bought a '79 a few years back. Burned thru 2k very quickily. Still have the car and love it.

I'd buy a Scat stroker crank and 64cc aluminum heads for my 350 rebuild.

Assuming my wife doesn't continue to encourage me to seel for a more spacious car to transport the triplets plus 2 more
I would use the $2000.00 for mid - 60s sidepipes and headers for my '77. :D

Well that makes it sort of rough, unless you get a wiring harness and maybe even a commercial DPFI unit....Edel, etc....

Installed overdrive, 3.70 gears, and hooker sidepipes. I think I could do it for $2000.00. I already have the tranny!

I agree, hold onto it for a few months and see what breaks. It would *really* suck to buy some killer heads, fuel injection, etc, and then be sidelined a week later if the radiator goes or a caliper develops a leak and you need to redo whole brake system. :)

I would go with a dual exhaust and a fiberglass rear leaf sprng first. But most importantly, I would leave some of that money in the bank just in case something goes wrong with the car. I have ha my79 for ten years, and do know that it is important to make sure the car has all the mechanicals (brakes, transmission, rag-joint, halfshafts, shims, etc.. in good shape before you start thinking about performance upgrades or cosmetic upgrades.

:yesnod:
"Set sail with Captain Morgan, and never leave dry land..."

I would work on "refreshing" my rear suspension: Trailing arms, rear spring, shocks, u-joints, rear end.

ahaha...Silvr77 your breathe would make me drunk !!!
(I am a non-drinker so a sip would intoxicate me...errr...maybe not...i weigh in at 200 pounds of beef.... :yesnod: I workout too much to drink) :D

back to the original question.....if after you waited all looks good...
and you still want more performance out of the ENGINE...not the car...
do cam,heads,intake,exhaust...using all of the $2000....

if you want to launch out of hole and like the engine as is
then get gears and exhaust and a higher stall and have $1000 left over for maybe some heads or interior work....

if you want better gas mileage and better out of the hole !
then put in an overdrive tranny and better gears...for all of the $2000

if everything falls apart after a month of driving it....then get a loan,
cause the $2000 aint enough to fix it all !!!

Gotta agree w/999 & terryrudy.....make SURE the thing is safe first, cause you can easily suck up $2K if it isnt. If all is well, then have at it. All ya gotta do is let your wallet/seat of pants ratio be your guide...... :jester
