What would you do with $2000???
For me: 454 shortblock with steel crank/nice rods/forged pistons
for you: TPI for your L-82 OR Turbo 700 trans conversion (if you have an automatic) for the overdrive 4th gear AND a set of 3.70 gears for intense acceleration off the line.

Concentrating solely on performance - if you had $2000 to spend what would you buy and why?
A carb wiil give you more bag for the buck. Fuel injection will give you better gas mileage but not necessarily better performance. Headers , new exhaust, intake , carb , and a cam. Might be more than 2K, since you will need to pay labor.

At this point, I would send the $2000 to the credit card company to pay for some of the work I've done to my vette. Now if I could only remember what all I spent it on.
On an L82, I would start from the back & work front. Meaning do the $500 exhaust system improvements. Then buying a set of $1300 aftermarket aluminum heads (CNC ported if budget allows).
If you get an L-48, the order of doing things would be different. The cam would be the first thing to go! Iron aftermarket heads would be slapped on. Whatever $$ left over would go to the exhaust/intake.

Thanks all for your informative responses. I agree, the little things should be attended to first. But if all is well, and I want to focus on performance, several searches on this site show people upgrading the intake, heads, cam and tranny. I have already purchased a 4L60e for dirt cheap :D. I intend to have the car fuel injected - a friend is giving me his TPI and computer from a 3rd generation Camaro. What are the best aftermarket heads for my application? Fast burn, vortec, etc. Keep in mind that I will be porting the heads and intake before installing ;).
Thanks
Thanks
New seats, headers, and true dual exhaust.
With another $2000, the AFRs and a nice roller cam.
With another $2000, performance suspension.
With another $2000, rims and some paint work. :)

Overdrive transmission & better gears because...
1) you'll get the most performance improvement for your buck
2) start from the back of your drivetrain and work your way forward, less things will break doing it this way. (only slightly less , though :) )

first the bad news... after the new interior, and the new drive train, $2000 seems like mop up money... What would I do with $2000 for the vette??? Ecklers (silver convertable issue) Pg.102 upper left corner... looks like I'd have one penny left to spend on a gumball.
