Which cam with this set up?
I have been seeing so many different setups that you guys have and I am trying to put mine together so I can run strong and reliable. It is the base engine (350/300hp 10.25/1 cr) that was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago by the previous owner. I haven`t pulled the heads yet and was hoping to just freshen everything up. I am gonna put new bearings throughout.
This is what I have in mind so far.
1. TFS 23 degree heads 64cc w/1.25" valve springs
2. Edelbrock performer air gap intake
3. Comp cams 1.52 roller tip rockers
4. Comp cams pushrods
5. Comp cams lifters
6. Comp cams timing chain
7. Comp cam ???????????(help)
This is my list so far. What do you guys think would be a good all around cam. I want the car to be strong but reliable. We will use the car as a cruiser and go on some short trips with the club. Maybe 100 miles.
The car is a 4 speed with a 3:36 rear gear. I don`t want to change the rear gear. The car will not be raced that I can see. If I have left out anything please let me know and I will update the list.
In my opinion since you have a manual transmission and 3.36 gears the XE268 would be a good choice. The XE262 would probably be a good choice also. You'd probably have a little better driveability with the XE262 since its power is a little lower down the RPM curve than the XE268.
Gary,
Both cams will act simalar in the same state of tune.Usually a dual pattern cam like the XE will work better than a single pattern cam with stock exhaust. The HE 268 will excel with the use of headers and an open plenum manifold but will work as a stock replacement cam with most trans and gear ratios as well. They both are nice little cams. Most small blocks will need a dual pattern cam for optimum performance after the duration of 220@.050 is reached on a street car. If it helps I would recommend the XE 268 if Eddie96 if he had .355+ gear and a RPM manifold but not without knowing if he has headers or not.
He has given ample information to give a recommendation of the XE 262 but it is hard sometimes with out all the needed information including what gears, trans, stall, headers or not and carb to be ran.Sometimes more info than that is needed.Knowing all the details really does help because there are so many cams available to suit the given needs.
I see some pretty large cams run in some of the motors in the C3 section. Some are with a great selection of other parts to make very good combinations. However I believe that sometimes the fact that a Shark weighs in at around 3600 lbs is forgotten. These things are not exactly light weight cars and that should be taken into consideration.

Re: Which cam with this set up? (mountainmotor)
Great answer guys because I was thinking larger. I see some XE274 and this is what I was thinking. Good thing I asked.
Right now I am thinking about using the Street Demon carb and the car has Allens 2 1/2 exhaust on it. Which I will probably add the Dynomax ceramic headers to later. I just hate the thought of blown header gaskets and changing them. :nonod:
