I have a 282S cam. same spec as Comp Cams but I bought it from Bullet, formerly the Lunati machinists before Holley bought them.
The comp cams spec are the same except lash
Comp Cams is 22 int & exh
Bullet is 24 int & 26 exh.
I am going with Bullets specs but it had me wondering why they recommended a different spec from Comp Cams
.....................................INT AKE........EXHAUST
DURATION AT .050...........236.............236
LOBE LIFT........................330......... ....330
LOBE SERATION........................110
SEAT DURATION AT .020...282............282
GROSS VALVE LIFT...........495............495
VALVE LASH (HOT)...........024............026
DEGREE INTAKE LOBE TO...........106 ATDC
I'm not sure why they specify the different lash, but changing lash is just another way of tuning for your desired powerrange. Loosening up the lash by .002-.004" will move you powerband a small amount and drop the overall profile of the cam producing more low end torque, while tightening it will have the opposite effect and raise the top end power. If I remember this right, the rule of thumb that I have always heard is to try and stay within .008max of the specs. Any looser or tighter may cause premature wear on the cam.
I was wondering what would happen if I change the lash to 22.
But I want to be sure before commiting. I'm happy with the settings now but can I be happier. :)
