That is called the pilot bearing. It goes in the back of the crank shaft.

It supports thr front tip of the transmission shaft.

Make sure a magnent will NOT! stick to the new pilot bushing, if it does THROW IT FAR AWAY, find a machine shop who carries Pioneer products and use a Pioneer bronze bushing. The market is being flooded with JUNK Chinese made parts made from the wrong materials (if it will attract a magnet, it will squeel in use some day.) Put the pilot bearing in oil and allow it to wick up lubricant before installing. To remove your old bearing, get a 5/8 coarse bolt, grind a "V" into the end of it perpendicular to the threads about 1/2 in length, taper the end threads, drive it into the old bearing and turn the bolt in to pull it out (method I have uses sucesfully for over 30 years now.) Just observerd the newley posted photo, don't know what the second bushing is for? Looks like another type of bushing but not used in any C3 Vettes that I have ever worked on.

It looks more like a spacer than a bushing. I have done many clutches over the years and never saw that in any boxes. Put it aside for now.

bit of a guess, but it might be the pilot bushing for a trans with a shorter input shaft.. for example, on my LS2/TKO swap, I had to use a pilot bushing that looked more like the larger one in your photo.. it fits in the end of the crank still (at least on the LS motor) and is closer to the rear of the crank than the smaller one which would fit further in..
so if your trans input shaft won't reach the "normal" pilot bushing, then you have to use the outer pilot bushing style (larger one in your pic).

i say i'm guessing because i've never had to use that style anywhere except in this LS2/TKO swap i'm doing..

that may be the deal, its the same I.D. as the bronze one but too little to fit the end of the crank. I just used it and a hammer to set the little one in. I got the flywheel and pilot bearing installed then found they gave me a 10 1/2 clutch instead of 11... and of course they are closed till monday. allways waiting on parts..

I am curious about the concern with the bushing being magnetic.

What is the watch out on a magnetic bushing?

Thanks

Bushing will later SQUEEL like a cornered pig! Like I said, check all your bushings now because China makes a BUNCH of JUNK! and it is being forced down our throats.
