I want to block off the choke crossover when I install my new intake manifold can any one give me a part number or where to find stainless block off plates?
They used to come with most performance gaskets sets but I haven't been able to find them. Thanks
I just did the same on my 72 - got the gasket with the ports blocked at Advanced Auto Parts.
Since I live in Texas, I thought I could live with the choke issue - but I later reconsidered, so you might want to consider the link below for a divorced to electric choke conversion kit - assuming you are still using carb with a divorced choke.
I'm guessing you already have your intake gaskets but you could also get the gaskets that block off that area as well as using the block off plate. I did this because I wanted as less heat as possible getting near the carb.
You can make some from a steel can or any scrap metal. Aluminum cans may not last long. But, as said above, I don't recommend it. It doesn't get that cold here in SoCal, but it my car ran like crap for a long time each morning when I blocked them off.
For any car not in the frigid zone of this country....I find that only ONE thing cures that intake crossover....buy some Plaster of Paris, nothing else will do....it's a white powder, mix it up and let it set up in there when you pour it home....as a liquid slightly thinner than toothpaste.....
block off one side with tape, and set the manifold on edge....
it WILL block the hot gasses, ALL gaskets will erode/melt quickly.......
NOW this is only recommended for electric choke carbs....if you have a antiquated hot gas tube thing looping through to heat the carb spring, or a heat choke spring called a 'stove' on the intake....i'ts not a good idea...change over to a internal element electric choke on the carb.....
