My battery guage does not work, all other gauges work. Needle is all the way to the left, or negative side.. Broken? I haven't pulled the gauge yet, any thoughts before i do ???

disconnect the battery first.......if you have to pull the gauge.......or the gauge could be accurate and you have a drain on the system....pull the negative cable off the battery and see if the gauge zeros........if it does, you have a drain......

Do a search on the C3 forums for ammeter. There have been lots of discussions about this gauge with some very helpful info. You could also search for my user name. I participated in some of the discussions while I was trying to learn about the gauge so I could repair mine.
There are a couple of places to begin a check: There is a fusible link at each end of the ammeter circuit - one at the horn relay and one in the wiring harness going to the starter about in the center of the car or just past it toward the starter.
You can use double or a triple A battery to test the gauge for movement.
Just solder a wire to the negative side of the battery and another to the positive side. Then attach the wires to the back of the Ammeter. If the gauge is good it will post movement. An easier way to test the Ammeter is to just test continuity across the two terminals on the back of the gauge, if you have continuity the gauge more than likely is good, however if you don’t have continuity the gauge is for sure defective.
With the ignition key turned on your gauge should go to Zero or maybe a little to the negative side until the car is started.
With you saying it’s pegged, is this when the ignition switch is turned on?
I got lucky with my 76 battery gauge. It did not work and after pulling it out of the bezel and upon closer inspection, it turned out the needle pointer was pass the stop pin. Carefully pulled the needle back over the stop pin and now it works great. Good luck might be with you too!
