I would have to agree with Grumpy. I had a much different car that when i just drove around town it was fine but about 3-5 minutes of freeway driving it would pop through the carb and it was a rounded lobe on the cam.
Hey everyone sorry i t took so long to get back. Okay i have 13 inches of mercury of vacuum...at idle, it goes up to 15 when revved so according to Project 80 it is a little low. Is there any specific port i should use over another? I used the the one on the back of the manifold behind the carb. I have double checked all the vaccum lines and put the original carb back on. I can't hear any vacuum leaks any where. Tomorrow i am going to take the valve covers off and eye ball the rockers for the same movement through out the valve train. I am also going to check the timing tomorrow. When i replaced the rotor button and cap there was some orange stuff on the mechanism below the rotor i just thought it was rust from old age the autozone across town has the ignition control mod so on my way home from work i am going to pick that up and install tomorrow. Thank You every one for the quick replies and i will let you know what i find out.
If you're going to run it with the valve covers off, look closely at your pushrods. If they are spinning, it's a good bet your cam lobes are OK. If any pushrod is not spinning, that lobe is history.
