Default '82 crossfire electric fuel pump problem

Just converted my '82 crossfire to carbureted using new edelbrock heads, intake, cam, distributor and carburetor. Everything with the swap went fine and I'm ready to fire it up. The problem I'm having, is I'm not getting power to my stock electric fuel pump. I've purchased a wiring schematic from Lectric, Inc., but I can't make heads or tails of it. Can anyone help? I know for certain that the fuel pump relay goes thru the ecm, but can't figure it out! I even went to the extent of plugging all of the old wire harnesses back to the firewall, but that didn't work either. Any advice from someone who has done this before would be greatly appriciated.

Unusual...did you check the fuse...labeled F.P. at the top of the panel?

Also check the fuse by the ECM.

Just a guess. Did you leave the oil pressure sensor in place. Thats the bell shaped thing to the driver side of the distributor and down a little lower. Fuel pump will shut off if its not working.

I believe the only thing you should have disconnected is the harness that goes to the injectors, iac's and tps.

There is a test. Can remember off hand. It has to do with running battery power to the pin for the fuel pump on the connector under the ashtray.I can't remember which pin. I'll have to look it up tomorrow.

There is also a fuel pump relay in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat. Have you touched that?

I haven't touched the relay behind the seat or the oil pressure safety switch. I obviously had all the oil drained from the engine for about a month while I made the swap, but since that I've filled it with oil again, but it hasn't been started since. As far as the fuel pump relay, do you have a wiring diagram? Any info you have with that test would be great. Thanks!!!

The manual says if the pump is not working. I assume you don't hear it buzz when you turn the key to on correct? You apply battery power to pump test connector it is teminal "G" on the ALCL terminal. You should hear the pump run. If not you need to check for an open circuit on CKT 120 or open ground on CKT 150.

CKT 120 is the tan/white wire that runs from the relay to the fuel pump fuse and also branches off to the oil pressure switch.

I'm still looking for CKT150. Just an after thought...not sure its the cause but did you connect the ground on the passenger side valve cover? It comes off those wires that went to the EGR solenoid?there should be the following wires on the relay. Orange goes to battery. Red goes to diagnostic check on terminal under ashtray. Green/white goes to fuel pump relay drive on ECM. Black goes to ground. Tan/white goes to oil pressure switch.

Will it even kick over when you turn the key? You never said. Can you let me know? if it doesn't kick over the problem could be something else. i.e the alarm.

Thanks for all your help! I found the oil pressure switch "open". Will replace it and go from there. By the way, where are those schematics from? Way better than anything I was able to find!!! Thanks again, Steve.

No problem Steve.

They are out of the 1982 Corvette Shop Manual. I scanned them and posted.

If you need any more diagrams shoot me a message.

Nothin worse than a nagging elec. issue when you're ready to fire her up for the 1st time. Let us know how it all turns out. I'm looking at swapping my Crossfire with a setup similar to what you described. Can't wait. Enjoy!
