Guys,
I am thinking of replacing my m-20 with a 5 speed, what i want is one with a 1:1 5th gear that shifts like a drag car. I"m not interested in a overdrive trans. I would like to know what"s avalable. So far i have found g-force, liberty, jerico, but there all out of my price range. I would like a 5speed that shifts quick, not interested in a road race trany that does not shift quick. The richmond is the only one i see thats in my price range an i have no idea what it shifts like. Are there any others i should look at? Any help would be much appericated.

Richmond 5 speed or old Doug Nash are same transmissions. If you get "lucky" like a friend of mine did you can score a Doug Nash "race" 5 speed that won't downshift very well with it's straight cut gears BUT will take full throttle "clutchless" upshifts at the drag strip. Richmond 5 speeds with 1:1 5th gear are around $2K at Summit and $1200 on FleaBay.
i bought a used richmond for mine years ago and i'm very happy with it. i've retired mine from track services though, so i can't give you any first hand experience on how you're talking about using it. mine shifts just fine for a street car but i don't think it would shift nearly well enough in a racing environment. that may be more a function of the hurst shifter than the tranny. i've heard the long shifter works better than the hurst. i have no doubt this tranny will handle anything i intend to throw at it. i forget what they're rated at but i think they're good up to 500/500.
