I may have found my own answer and would ask for other thoughts
LRN 189E2
LR = 3.36
N is where it was made but I find no N so maybe I am reading it wrong and it is a K?
18 = 18th day
9 = Sept
E = Eaton Positraction
2 = 1972
In 1972 both AX and LR were 3.36 gearing. In an earlier year LR was for a big block so can I assume AX is small block? And if so was there any difference between the BB and the SB?
Other then the side yokes and stamped numbers there is no difference. They both use the same gears,cases and lousy clutches. The SB 4 spd cars used a smaller pinion yoke.
Thanks GTR1999. I was thinking of using this in place of my 4.11 as they are too much for road use - I would keep the 4.11 as it is original to the car. I assume I would need to change the pinion yolk to work with the small block driveshaft is that correct?
I am getting an entire rear suspension and will probably sell off the parts I don't use. Is there something other then checking obvious wear that I can do to see if it is bad.
You want to check the diff you use for cracks in posi case. Depending on the year, some are more prone then others.
The pinion yoke splines are the same so you just have to be sure which DS yoke you have and then use the pin yoke for it.
