Default Wrong Fan Shroud?

I just received and have been trying to install a new fan shroud from ZIP. I don't think it is the correct one. It really is not wide enough and the opening it not centered on the fan. The fan hits on the right side with 1+ inches of clearance on the left side.

I have a 1972, 350, 4spd, AC , PS. They recommended a (ZIP P/N M-2478) or (GM P/N 3956109)

Does this set up require a big block shroud? Say (GM P/N 3956331) due to the larger radiator and lack of expantion tank?

I'm also forwarding this to ZIP to see if the recommended the correct one.

I believe the 109 is correct for your car. also a 26" copper brass radiator no x-tank

This is my 73
Originally a 350 (now a 383), AC, auto, PS. Not sure how much (if anything) was changed from the 72.

Hope this helps.

Guess the obvious question is the fan correct? The radiator looks right. Has the correct cutouts on the top and the tank looks right. Is that a metal bracket attaching it at top?

Dennis, It is loose in the picture. However, all is as far to the right as possible. Let me ask you a question, is your engine centered within the engine bay; mine is not. I measured straight across the hood and the left side is about 2" longer from center engine air cleaner post to the inner fender.

The engine is off-set to the right by about 2" in all C3s. Maybe the shroud is not for a Corvette, but for a car that has the engine centered?

Well, I,m good at 2"..... never thought that I would ever say that but, I'm in a differcult situation.

Every parts vendor recommends this shroud. The radiator and shroud are as far to the right as they will go.

I can't tell from your pictures, but is the shroud fitting correctly around the A-arm's?
It's tight in there, especially on the right side.

Here are pics of both sides:

Are there any shims on the sides of the radiator support?

Kevin , the shroud does clear both A arms.

Dennis, where would these shims go. I don't see any. Are you saying that there should be some to move it to the right more?

It appears that I cannot slide the shroud over any more to the right. I barely have space to connect the lower hose now. Also the side fold/edge of the shroud appears right where it should be mating up with the radiator.

I'll try tomorrow to see if I can loosen the radiator itself and slide it more to the right.. the shroud should follow I hope. Any advise on attempting this? Do you know if there are adjustment?

Thanks

Have you tried loosening the radiator support? I was never able to get it in without the support loose.

The 73 pictured with the shroud and extention looks the same as my 75.

Has your front end ever been off?

The engine is offset 1" to the pass side. That is measured at the frame center line etc. engine mounts etc.

First make sure the rad is all the way to the pass side on the core support. There is not much room for adjustment.
Then in order to move the core support and rad and shroud over to the right a little you must loosen the large core support bolts underneath the core support. Not the 6 bolts holding the core support to the inner fenders. At the same time, the complete front end must come up a hair, so that the shroud will have room to go over to the right on the crossmember.
Lay underneath the front and you will see what I mean. It sounds more difficult than it is. The lower rad hose, xmember and shroud will all lay snug to each other when correct.

After taking another look at your pics it looks like the right tank on your radiator might be different than mine.
It appears that the right tank on your radiator is wider than mine and the cap on yours is flat on the top while mine is angled at about 45 degrees.

Is there a chance that someone installed in incorrect aftermarket radiator in it?

I don't know if the setup for the radiator core support for a 73 or later is the same as the 72 or at least to my engine/ac/4spd set up.

The two lower bolts to connect the bottom of the shroud are welded to the radiator core support via 2 tabs. When I mount the shroud on these bolts and tighten the nuts, the sides of the shroud line up with the sides of the radiator. Thus, the support and the radiator are aligned and so the shroud. In order for me to move eveything to the right, I would have to move the core support. I don't see any way of adjusting this over.

I still think that I have the wrong shroud. The fan opening should be more to the right.. much like the pictures that I saw of the BB shroud. The opening for the fan is less than 2" away from the right edge of the shroud. Does anyone have a 1972 350 4spd with ac? What is the number stamped in your shroud?

The 109 shroud is the correct shroud. Corvette is also the only one that uses that shroud because of the setback in the radiator, it does not fit any other cars besides Corvette. I am looking into the problem now, Has anything else been replaced, radiator support or radiator?
