Default Update on the Loaner Carb Program

We've been getting some fantastic contributions from the Forum members to our Loaner Carb Program. We now have 9 carbs to offer, although many of these still need to be checked out and set up before being shipped out. I'm going to keep posting updates on the carbs, availability, status, etc. at the beginning of the original Loaner Carb post at the top of this Forum - check in once in a while if you're interested in availability and what we have to offer. I'm expecting to get a distributor into the program, too, so our members can have access to a full range of parts for troubleshooting.

In addition to the complete carbs, several members have sent me some great parts and components for use on Forum-member carbs when I rebuild them. Quite a few Forum members have received these free parts in their carbs in order to bring their carbs back to the correct configuration. Pretty neat program that a lot of people are getting some nice benefit from. Thanks to everyone who has sent out parts and carbs to make this possible!

If you have an interest in borrowing any of the Forum carbs listed in the Loaner Carb Post, just drop me an e-mail. If you want to use one of the carbs that is not ready to ship, I will set it up and get it out to you.

Lars,
Any info for me about secondary rods? http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=209616

If nothing else, I may request a loaner carb and then send mine out to you for a complete check out/rebuild. Would it matter that I have converted to an electric choke?

Thanks,

Avery -
Glad you posted... I somehow managed to delete your e-mail that had the info on your carb number, current rod letter code, and your application info. If you still have the e-mail and/or the info, would you send it out to me again? I promise to try to not hit the wrong button when viewing the mail this time...! (I can handle carbs, but this computer stuff is still a mystery...)

Hi Lars

Do you have a carb for me to try on my 427 CI engine ?
The one presently installed is a 650 CFM holley 4150 double pumper mechanical, choke delete and everybody tells me it's to small.
I like to try a 750 or 800 vacuum secondary.
If I would decide to buy one after tryal, I could offer my 650 carb to your set.
My car has original L71 heads with 2.19/1.88 valves, solid lifter cam
.520/.520 lift, 242/242 duration at .050. 114 lobe centerline angle.
It's a 4 bolt main square port block and I'm running HOOKER headers and sidepipes.
Can you tell me how to see that my carb is actually to small. It pulls up easy to 5.500 RPM and possibly further if I had the guts to go further.
Will a to smal carb also restrict power on low RPM ?
Gunther

WESCH -
A 600 cfm carb is too small for a 427 - it's basic arithmetic. A vac secondary 750 will allow your 427 to breath quite a bit better at higher rpm, and you will not notice a drop-off in torque at low rpm.

We have a 750 vac Holley in the loaner program, but it's going out to "The Dude" as soon as I finish fabricating the box. If you'd like to try it out next, I can have him ship it directly to you once he's done. Just drop me an e-mail with your address and a request for the carb and we'll get you set up.

Actually, Lars, I just sent you an e-mail. I think we ought to go ahead and try the 750 on WESCH's big block for the time being. I think he's going to like it...

Okay, WESCH - sounds like you're up! Drop me an e-mail with all pertinent info, and the carb will be on its way.

Great.
I will send you an E-mail.
I have a shipment coming over from Seattle area very soon, in about 10 days.
Do you think it could join ?
Otherwise we have to find a way to get it to Luxembourg somehow.
Thanks Gunther

Your distributor was the one I was referring to, so I guess we got you on the hook now, eh? No, really, whenever you can is just great. I know we have a couple of Forum members who would love to try it out in order to troubleshoot their own systems, so I'll go through your distributor, set it up with some good quality parts, and put a really nice advance curve in it for people to try out. Of course, you can have the rebuilt unit back at any time, so just let me know if you need it. Thanks for helping out with this fun program!

lars, I love this program!

One of these days I'll pop you off an email about getting a loaner carb just to run some comparisons with mine.

I was wondering, though. Are you looking to do a loaner distributor program too? :D
