trying to remove the center console on my '80, is there anything i need to know other than removing the phillips screws?

Yes, there is a through bolt at the very rear, center of the console. It goes into the storage compartment and has a nut on it. Reach in there under the lid and you will feel it. Use a 1/4" drive with a socket and it will come right off.

It's plastic and it will break in a heart beat. Get the AIM. AIM shows how the thing is mounted including the hidden screws beneath the center cluster.

All is easy. Just remember ther are two small bolts...one on each side that attach the consol to the center guage cluster. You need to remove the side panels to see the bolts.

Once you have loosened the whole thing up it comes out easier if you shift the car in to L1...lowest opsition on the shifter.
