Wheel flanges question
I'm upgrading the diff on my '81 to an iron piece and have to replace the half shafts with ones of the correct length. I have an old rearend that has 2 1/2" half shafts and the outer flanges are in good shape. Are there different sizes for different size half shafts or are these all the same? I've found a good pair of 3" half shafts but they don't include the flanges.

In my case the flanges are the same. I have 2-1/2" and 3" shafts and in a back to back comparison the flanges are identical. When I went to the parts book to order new u-joints they're the same part # for either shaft.

GM increased the diameter of the half shafts as the horsepower went down, and in any event they used the same u-joints--which in most cases would fail before even the smaller half-shaft !
