Hey, Im thinking of doing a T56 swap in my 80 Vette. I've been searching the threads and theirs some good information but I haven't found anyone who has done the swap with my setup. I have a 94 Lt1 out of a Vette with an automatic trans from the same 94. What parts would I need. I've looked at the 5 speed kits but their a bit pricy, I rather get a used t56. Which one is the best for my application (Vette, Camaro, Viper...)? Would I need to do anything to the computer? Any information would be much appreciated.

Its really not that hard of a swap. Since your car is an auto you will have a removable crossmember. You will probably have to modify it slightly. From there you have to decide what you want to do for the shifter. you can modify your console or get an offset shifter. If you modify your console the shifter will sit in the middle of the tunnel about an inch back from where it originally was. Depending on how tight your tunnel is you may have to make some room, not a big deal just a bit of fiberglass work. Since you already have an LT1 I would get a T56 out of a 93-97 F-body preferably 94-97 since Ive heard there a bit stronger. This will be a direct bolt up once you get a flywheel and clutch. obviously your going to need pedals, Im not much help here since my car was manual to begin with but you will have to set something up to run the hydraulic clutch system. You can keep the manual clutch linkage with some modification to the trans but why bother, its not very hard to set up the hydraulic clutch. After that its really just wiring up all the lights and sensors, I cant help you here, Im not that far yet. hope that helps
