Probably will sound dumb, but I have never seen an engine installed in my 1971 roadster, so better safe than sorry. I am going to buy a distributor for my ZZ383 very shortly. My concern is clearence for both firewall and hood. I am pretty much sold on the GMPP #93440806, for my particular application. It is an HEI, and appears in pictures to be larger in size, than the old stock points type distributor. I am going to need an L-88 hood for my intake choice, so hoping that end should be good. Any info is appreciated.
Have a Saginaw power steering pump with the cast iron, three spoke pulley GM#3834720. I think these were used 65 thru 74 small block w/o a.c..
So my original plan was to pull this pulley and mount it on a new production "tuff stuff" Saginaw pump, for intall on my ZZ383. First problem is, how is pulley properly removed without damage? Rented a power steering pulley removal tool, but is designed for a pressed on straight shaft application, mine is a tapered shaft with a locknut threaded at end. Second issue, I am just assuming, but it would be my guess that the "tuff stuff" pumps are not made in the tapered shaft/lock nut configuration. Have no interest in rebuilding the pump I have, was hoping for a newly manufactured unit. Any suggestions? Any info is appreciated!
