Default Tilt/Tele steering column

I just replaced the std steering column in my 1973 roadster with a T/T column. When I connected the battery what I think is the key buzzer engaged and stays on all the time. I checked the door switch and it is OK. It appears the switch engaged by the key must be stuck. I had someone replace the ignition lock in the T/T column with the one from my old column. Does anyone know if there is a simple fix for this or do I have to replace the key switch? Any suggestions before I take on this job? I really don't want to go back to the person that did the key work. He suggested I disconnect the buzzer.

Search Jim Shea on the internet and this site. He has written a number of papers on the GM column and if I remember correctly even has a paper on diagnostics for the ignition buzzer. My only guess to what is going on its that its the ignition lock cylinder or the buzzer switch in the column. When you pull out your key a small white tab at the bottom of the switch is released that pushed down on the buzzer switch. Is it possible that the buzzer switch was damaged when the new lock cylinder was installed or is it possible that the new lock cylinder is damaged and continually putting pressure on the buzzer switch. To get to the buzzer switch you will need some special tools.

Here's the link to Jims papers. About 1/2 way down is the paper on key buzzer trouble shooting.

Default Tilt tele steering column

I finally got to working on my column and got the buzzer switch from Wilcox. I thought I was done with the job and got the column in the car to the point where I was tightening the shaft bolt and wanted to engage the column lock so I could tighten it. When I put the car in reverse the lock pin did not move. The cable moved the arm but the pin did not move. Can anyone help? Does Jim Shea cover this in his excellent papers?

Putting the car in reverse does not engage the lock pin. The lock pin is moved only moved when you turn the key (the car need to be in park or the shift interlock cable will prevent you from turning the ignition key to the OFF position). In the OFF and ACC position the pin is up or locked.
