It has been a while since I got this. I finally finished up enough for a start and a quick run down the street with open headers. I still have half the dash out and the passenger seat out and some tidying up of some wires but I wanted to see how it ran. It started up within 2 cranks and idled on its own with no problem. After setting the timing the idle speed was right on at about 900 rpm. Great throttle response and the idle is good. It takes about 30 to 40 miles for the computer to really learn how I will be driving but so far it is perfect. Here are some pictures of the install. The hardware is easy to install. The wiring harness is a generic harness to fit many cars. I had to pretty much pull it apart and reposition a lot of wiring and move some of the components. This is not needed but I wanted a clean install. Also the fuel lines took quite a bit of time to do it right. I had a minor leak that was easily fixed. I have since put in a shut off valve right before the fuel pump in case I have to open up the system or drain the tank for any reason. Here is the tank and fuel lines. Another job I had to do is rewire the dual Spal fans. The computer will trigger the fans so I did not need the controller for the fans. Just 2 relays and wire them accordingly. Out came the whole wiring for that and rewired it for a cleaner install.
The coil inside the car so not to clutter up the engine compartment. Not much room in the engine area anyway. Still need to clean up some wiring here.
Inertia switch location in case of accident. Safety first here. Easy to get to if I need to reset it.
Check engine light. From an 82 Vette.
Computer under the passenger seat. Not much choice here. The little box in front is the fuse box and relay center for the fuel pump, fans ,computer. This is going to sit right up against the seat so it is out of the way. Again not much choice in location.
I made a power take off as to not crowd the starter. I ran a heavy 10 gauge wire over to the circuit breaker. The top wire is for the computer and the left side and bottom are for the fans going up to the relays mounted on the inner fender.
Engine shot
Closer shot of the throttle body
Mass air sensor installed with the custom air cleaner base
Setup with everthing but the lid. It clears the hood with a little to spare but it clears.
I left out many of the details of the install. If anyone wants any more details feel free to ask. I have not had it out on the road yet due to weather but as soon as it clears up a little I'll be road testing it.
Good job Gordon. Damn that's nice and clean. You will be very happy with fi, especially port injection. I am very pleased with my throttle body injection. Maybe it will grow up to port injection some day, but that is very low on the priority list. What does the inertia sensor do on impact, cut off the fuel pump? That coil is too pretty to hide, you should find a spot to mount it under the hood. The engine looks great, especially with the fi.

Beautiful job! Now, pat yourself on the back....then go get some paint to touch-up that fugly master cylinder. [But, seriously...meticulous job. Well done. ]
Hmmm I guess I need to clean up my master cylinder.
I still have to secure the wiring harness for the fuel injectors and secure up some more wiring but it is in the correct location. Another sensor you will not see is the Barometric sensor. I mounted it to the back of the footwell shield on the drivers side. You can only see the wiring going to it. I tried to hide as much as possible.
Yes the inertia switch is wired in so that when it is tripped it stops the fuel pump.
Ok you guys shamed me into cleaning up the master cylinder and painting it. Ignore the PCV line. Temporary one until I get the new valve covers and the right size line. Just a temp one to get the motor running. Now I have to clean up the area behind the hydroboost.
Can I ask what you used to clean up the MC with and what you painted it with? Also, is the paint/coating affected by brake fluid? TIA.
Nothing really exotic. I sprayed it down with Brake clean and wiped it off. Did this a few times. Taped it all off and sprayed it with Eastwood Detail Gray paint. I'm sure if it gets wet with brake fluid it will remove the paint. I'll just reshoot it if that happens.
Honestly I really could not tell you because I have been doing other things to the car. I also did a few extras like redoing the harness and making the fuel lines and making my own brackets and stuff. It could be installed in under 20 hours by just installing it. I'll bet I have well over 60 into it so far and a lot of planning and tinkering.
