Default Wheel size question

I found a nice pair of aftermarket rims for my 70. The seller says they are 15 x 7 inch with 3 1/2 inch back spacing. If I calculate correctly, the distance from the mounting surface to outer rim edge should be the same as a 15 x 8 with 4 1/2 inch back spacing ( less rim between the mounting surface and inner fender skirt). Am I doing the math correctly? If I put a 255/60 r15 tire on these, will they rub in front?

I have a stock 80 with 15x8 factory rims with 255/60/15s all around. You shouldn't have a problem.

For 255/60/15 use 15 X 8 with a 4” back space.

Why would you want to put 7" wide wheels on it?

The wheels are real cheap (less than the cost of one new rim) and happen to be 7 inch wide. I plan on using my rally's after I restore them with repro original tires. The 15 x 7's are drivers but I still want them to look correct. I don't feel like spending $1000 on a spare set of wheels and tires.

I know 15 x 8 is the stock size. My question is : If I buy these 15 x 7 rims with 3 1/2 in. backspace, will they fit within the wheel wells with 255/60's. I think they should but wanted confirmation.

255's bulge pretty good on an 8" rim... they're bound to bulge more on a 7". Tire Rack recommends 6.5 to 10", so you might give it a try to see what they look like.

Good luck... GUSTO

They will fit.
I used older rims that were the same size and the same tire.
Back in the day, seems all had either 3.5 or 3.75 backspacing.
The attached pic is with the 7" rims and 255x60 tires on the back and 245x60's on the front.
Hope this helps.

Terry,
I think you answered my question but I don't see your picture.
