Default Possible group purchace?

I'm sold on this conversion also. What are the chances for a group purchase for the members?

I don't know if that would be allowed since Borgeson isn't a supporting vendor, but if it happens somehow I'll seriously consider getting in on the deal.

As a manufacturer we prefer to sell through our dealers. We can and do sell direct as well. We are working on adding more Vette dealers. At this time we are selling through Ecklers. Other major distributors such as Summit, Jegs, Keystone and Motorstate will be able to sell the parts as well. The drag link adapter and rag joint are also parts we are manufacturing. Part #'s as follows.
Box #800108
Rag joint 67-82 #055043
Rag joint 63-66 #055034
Drag Link Adapter #990002
Are these all the part necessary to fully implement this upgrade on a car with power steering already.

Default Borgeson 114350 U-Joint

The stainless U-joint from Borgeson I ordered through Summit racing, part number of 114350, fits the Vette column and Jeep box perfectly. I've got the box installed now. It took a lot longer than I thought. I'd recommend a bolt in kit, unless you enjoy cutting and welding. It will be a little longer before I have the complete sytem hooked up though, as the front suspension is still out of the car. I'll try to post pics when I figure out how to download them to my computer.

Just completed the Borgeson steering box upgrade.2.5 turns lock to lock feel is tight and response is quick.Installation was pretty easy you have to use the supplied brass fittings to hook up the hoses.I should have test fit the hoses into the pump before mounting on the frame. The Box bolts up to the frame with no brackets or modifications.A great upgrade for sure and no more leaking components. Here's a link to my pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/39104031@N05/3596667182/

I have a question about this setup. I have a 1982 but it has a 1984 corvette serpentine drive on it. As you know it does not have the conventional style power steering pump like the v-belt pump. How would one of these boxes react to this pump? Also I have driven a WS-6 trans am that had a similiar looking box (not sure of the ratio) would my vette have a similiar feel to that trans am with one of these boxes?

Have you ever made lines to use the serpentine drive power steering pump? Also how safe is that brace that takes place of the power steering control thing or would it be best to find non powersteering parts instead of that brace thing?

Right now Jeep Cherokees and Grand Cherokees are right at the top of the "clunker trade-in list" so if its one of these boxes and you are friendly with a dealer, you may be able to get one for next to nothing.

My understanding of the CARS program is that there isn't an allowance for the salvage of clunker parts (the trade-ins are to be crushed); one reason SEMA and many of us opposed the program. But, please correct me if I'm mistaken...

Been cruzin with the Borgeson Box for close to two months and lovin the response.Steering feels as good as my sons 99 Gt Mustang. Before I did the upgrade it was very sloppy and needed a complete rebuild.Costs to replace all the orignal components would have been close to the 800.00 price tag I paid for the Borgeson upgrade. You can see how it really cleans things up under the car.Box bolts right to the frame with no brackets and looks factory installed.Alohas....

Rgds. Günther

I have the corvettesteering jeep box kit. The box itself is the same size as the one offered by Borgeson and I had to dimple 2 of the header tubes on my Hooker side exhaust to clear the box and not cook the fluid inside.
I think it is still too close.
I have hydroboost brakes and the jeep box and I am going to have to upgrade the power steering pump b/c its just too much.
When turning in a parking lot the steering pump sqweels like a pig. Pretty embarasing.

You should be able to slide the shaft back - you might have to tap it lightly due to rust. Did the instructions not tell you how to do this?

I have a Corvette and a Jeep. I don't think I am going to try to mix them.

Default Finally got some pics of my progress

Took these a couple of months ago but I still don't have the rest of the car back together.
Cut some frame away:

Top view:

3/8" steel plate with original bolt anti-crush tubes welded on:

Plate welded in with 2.5" tube in the center for support:

Pic of the outside frame rail (and my thumb):

Top of the frame with new "divit" for steering box to sink into, made from 1/4" steel plate:

Box in place with Borgeson steering joint:

Better shot of the installed '02 Grand Cherokee box (I know, the pitman arm is backwards!):

Top pic:

Bottom, after plating:

Please, no welding jokes! This was my first real fab project on this car. Big thanks to Norval, as his install was the inspiration.

I have read these threads on steering conversions and I'm not sure wich feels best as I have not driven any of them. It would appear to me that the Borgeson set up would be the safest as there are no welded parts or fabricated brackets or double drilled holes. Also I like the fact that the Borgeson system is bolt together and in straight alignment with the steering colume.

My stock set up is new and tight with no leaks, however if it gives me any problems I think I would go with Borgeson. Also looks to be the best bang for the buck.
