i have hooker supercomps right now, but they're like skid plates over speed bumps, so they are kinda beat up. im thinking if these would be worth purchasing as a replacement for when i drop the 381 stroker in..
What year vette do you have, and is it manual or auto?
I have a set from my 76', manual tranny. I'll give em to you for half what summit sells them. They were never used, but didn't work for my application. I ended up going with sanderson shorty headers, instead. PM me if interested.
Just to let you know though...you get what you pay for. Yes, they fit fine, and will work fine, but the quality is.....eh....
I have used about a dozen sets of these over the last 10 years. Used them on vettes, firebirds, mopars, and chev trucks. Currently have a set on my daily driver '79 with the Hooker dual kit and Dynomax super turbo muffs. They are quality pieces, go on easy, and make just as much power as a set of $500.00 headers. I have never had a set rust out or crack and I have run a set on ever daily driver I've owned since '98. I have ample ground clearance on my '79. I stripped them and applied several coats of VHT satin silver before I installed them 14 months ago and they still look like new. How can you go wrong?

I might have to give them(Summit brand headers) a try when the time comes to change the headers on my '78 Z28.
I always strip my new headers with liquid paint remover from Home Depot.
Then I rinse them with water, then scuff with scotchbrite pads, then paint with black BBQ grill paint from Home Depot.
Go ahead and laugh, but it works. The high temp heat cures the paint to a flat-black that doesnt chip and it's cheaper than high-temp engine paint.
By the way, I do the same thing to my exhaust pipes and they stay the same color and don't rust from the outside.
Here's a pic of a Mustang X-pipe I painted with the BBQ paint.
I had read about that black coating that they come in when shipped..
How would I go about stripping them so I can put high temp paint on them?
thanks,
kevin "never stripped headers before" O'B
The factory paint burns off in the first five minutes. I have a set from my 75 that were only on the car for about an hour that you can have if you want to come pick them up.
