I haven't put my new ones on yet but when I put old panels on the last time I put clear silicone (like the blue gasket stuff) on both pieces of the velcro and then held the door panel together with a couple C-clamps overnight. Never came loose and you couldn't tell it was even on there. Hopefully my new ones won't need that but I'll do it if I have to.

I have put door panels on but all of them were Eckler's. In my case the velco pieces on the panel were not compatible with the originals. I had to drill out the rivets and replace the receptors on the door with the ones that came with the doors. They worked great. I just snapped them together. :D

Slide,
Maybe I am misunderstanding you: Did you glue the panels to the door? How can you remove them if you need to get in there to repair anything?

Tom, My door panels are held on with screws. I have never seen velcro. And I would certainly not glue them on.

I think pre-1978 had those velcro tabs and 78 and up were screws. You can still see the indents in the inner door though on 78 and up where they used to use the heavy duty velcro.

I have replaced pre '78 and '78 and later. I remember they both had screws
and the pre ' 78 had had both screws and velcro.

Good Luck.....

MY '72 has both screws and the "plastic velcro" tabs. The slightest warp or misalignment will prevent these tabs from sticking and holding. :smash:

You can get doors from most of the dismantelers, they are cheap since the fit basically the same for the whole run, I talked to a vendor a couple of weeks ago that just buried 50 of them and is going to do 50 more, he has no use for them after he strips them out.
