Default Wierd Fuel problem

My car has been falling down at about 3800 rpm. 1970 350/305 hp. Several people have suggested I check the rubber fuel lines. The ones going into the fuel pump are new so today I decided to drop the spare tire and check the ones coming from the tank. The Car was frame off resto and everything looking fine no kinks. I put the tire back in start the car and it dies in front of my house. I rolled it in front of my house dropped the spare tire and car and finally get the car started with a little shot of starting fluid. Now the car would barely idle. I had to readjusted the idle screw quit a bit to get idle back I was idling prior to this at about 1200 rom. I know it was a little high. I rechecked all the lines under the car and even removed the metal clamp holding the rubber hose to the frame. I am wondering if I have some crap in the fuel lines that needs to be blown out

That is an intersting engine!

I would check the fuel filter first, maybe some junk has clogged it up.

Or, as I saw on another thread, check for vacuum leaks. You may just have a crack in a hose or might have pulled one of accidentally. Easy to check and cheap to fix.

no leaks. I plugged the vacuum at the manifold to check when it happened

What about the condition of the distributor. Could the mechanical advance system be binding up?

Have you checked in the tank to see if it is rusted? I wonder could the sock on the fuel pickup be clogged with rust particles. I would also check the fuel filter for the same.

Is it a 350/350 or 350/300, just curious?

is the hose from the fuel line to the fuel pump a FACTORY SHAPED piece and not just a bent piece of ordinary hose???

ordinary hose in that U bend has been known to collapse under suction and deprive fuel....on the suck side of the pump....

The hose going into the fuel pump and new and they are the correct S-curved hosed. I replaced them when I put the motor back in last year. I am wondering if my fuel pump could be going bad

I just changed my tank last year because of a rusted out tank. I changed everything and all was well untill a couple of months ago.

It turned out that I still had rust and crap in my lines, clogging my carb. I had it cleaned twice, and then it started acting funny again. So, long story short, my mechincal fuel pump was clogged too. The hard part was that most of the fuel pumps you can't take apart to inspect the rubber diaphram. Changed to a Holley mech fuel pump, an Earls inline filter, and steel braid lines.

I'd remove the fuel filter and test the fuel pump pressure, most of the auto part chains have loaner pressure guages.
