I know this has been covered before but please forgive me. I tried to search some old post but thought I could get some up to date advice. I have a 76 that both trailing arm assemblies need rebuilt on. One spindle will need to be replaced. Can a person with average mechanical ability rebuild the arms? If not who will do me a good job at a good price? I have saw some places for $250 per arm, rebuilt with all parts (brakes &etc). Any help with where to get parts, or should I try this, or who should I contact.
Thanks
Trust me, Just have them rebuilt. Vanstell or Gary does a great job. You may find someone local just get references. This is not a job you want to do twice.
you know, if you have all the tools for it, its not that bad of job. i read through garys instructions, and he answered all of my questions i had. in the end i got them rebuilt and set up with out issue.
with that said, if you dont have the bearing set up tools, a dial indicator, and a press, i wouldnt even begin to think about doing this job my self.
The easiest thing to do by far is to buy a pair of rebuilt trailing arms from Van Steel and send them your arms for a core refund. Not guaranteed that you will get the full amount of the core charge back - I had one spindle that was worn out of spec, but they are honest folks and will give you as much of the core charge back as they can.
Below is a pic of the Van Steel arms. They look like new.
Start off by telling us where your located! There are some fantastic local trailing arm guys who doo excellent work for less cash!!. Just need someone to HOOK you up with them.
