Default Drilling Intake for vacuum

I just read a few posts about drilling an rpm intake to put in new vacuum lines. I need to do the same thing because the one by the back of the # 8 intake is blocked by the new carb. ( you would think that edelbrock would know this? )

My question is does it matter where you put the vacuum port and does the intake thread easy?

I was thinking of putting it on the side of the intake under where the choke will be?

You need to locate it somewhere close to the central plenum area where the carb mounts and make sure there are enough threads to seal the fitting. The location of a LT-1 hi-rise is a little further out on the #8 cylinder runner than the Perf RPM intake, so you may be able to move it out further along the runner where it is now.

I drilled my Victor Jr. right in the plenum area about 3/4 of an inch below the carb pad in the rear center. Worked great.

I had to drill my Performer RPM intake because my Holley blocked the one that came drilled. I drilled mine in the side of the #8 runner as close to the top as I could to get the port in. It drills easy and taps easy just make sure you use the right size drill bit no big deal.

Just make sure you get ALL of the metal drill & tap chips out of it before you reassemble it.

My guess it was moved there on purpose. You are supposed to use their carb instead of a Holley, pretty sad. Ron B.

Can't you avoid this drilling by just using the vacuum port (below the throttle blades) of the Holley?

Alternatively, space permitting, you could get a ported carb spacer.

I was in the same boat on my 76. drill or do what I did; just buy the 90 degree adapter. It'll clear the rear float bowl on the Holleys. I'd have to look at my reciepts to see the source and PN. It was either a edlebrock or Holley part to address this issue. I know it was from jegs or summit too.

Default Drilling manifold??

Possible to simply Tee two lines from an available hole and plug the hole that you can't use?

that is what i would suggest, all you need is a 3/8" connection and you can run all vac items from it as long as it is manifold hook up..is there a tube off the carb base??

Thanks for the replies,
Yes there is a 3/8" nipple on the back of the carb. I was going to use that one for the brakes and PVC. I wanted another port for the headlights and auto trans.

I did see the 90 degree elbow to use, but it does not look like it will fit under the demon carb without a spacer.

same boat here - frecking a-holes at edelbrock. If I had known the Holley 750 carb was gonna cover the port on my Air-Gap I would have bought a Weiand intake instaed.

I plan to use the nipple on the back of the Holley as well as there is not a chance of accessing the manifold port without a 1" carb spacer

you can run ALL your vacuum slaves from ONE port and be ok, you can use a many tees or hookups as you need.....hell you can even hook up an aahooga horn!!.........
