One more thing...
Is your Car non AC?
I cannot find where a vacuum hose connects to. it is on the top right control infront of the selector wheel. it has a 2 port molded rubber connector and the top has been cut off about six inches out. Where is your connected to if Non a/c? I couldn't find a vacuum diagram for a 71 non ac car anywhere....

I assume you are talking about the vacuum for the heater controls? Let me see if I can put mine together temporarily and take some pics. Seems I did find the vacuum diagram somewhere....email me and I'll try to get it to you.

Hang in there both of you and well figure this out! Intersting on the black and white wire.

I may drive to my office tomorrow to look at my 70. I can ping the wire real easy since the center dash is still out of the car.

Now you have me wondering! I drew the original schematic off the GM diagrams, and what is so interesting is that this schematic has been used over and over again and no one has ever said there was a wire issue in the schematic. Proving it one way or the other will be easy for me, getting to the office tomorrow to check it may be a problem. I may have to wait until Monday.

Wilcox - thanks again for your help, it would be great to get you to comment at this time as it seems that we now have both systems working but in contrast to the troubleshooting documents you have produced, specifically in relation to the presence of voltage on the ground triggers while at rest. Is it possible that the troubleshooting information needs to be revised? I can tell you that due to the troubleshooting docs I thought I had a bad relay and/or switch and replaced both but now realize that the originals were fine (I've tested them both in the working system now).

Regards - Bill Huskey

Buskey,
Yes, I am talking about the heater control. I will send you an email in a few minutes. I too thought I had a bad relay and switch based on the diagram but I would have replaced it as a process of elimination with or without the diagram. Obviously, now I am fairly comfortable with the wiper system and I am sure any future repairs on my car or any other would seem easy.
