Default 1976 exhaust???

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or recommendations on what type of exhaust to install in my 76 vette??

I want it louder than my stock I currently have in it, but not obnoxiously loud. Just loud enough for people to hear it come down the street...if anyone has any input, that would be very helpful.

A friend of mine has headers on his 06 vette, does anyone have an opinion on headers on a 76??

Don't you think you'll get better responses in the C3 forum?

Yes try the C3 board. Headers are more for power and the catback is what really controls the volume, however a 76 has so little power not sure the headers would give you much jump. You need a cam and intake manifold change at the same time to wake the car up.

I had hooker headers, true dual 2.5 exhaust w/no cats & added an H-pipe and magnaflow mufflers. No drone, great sound. Now run fast back to the C3 section before these guys rip you apart. Don't forget the wave.

Glad you surived the C-6 group, their mods consist of which floor mats to buy and the newest wheel nut cleaner.

Hooker Comps with MagnaFlow 40's have a great sound, but there are lots of other combinations also.

1974 was the last year of true dual exhaust on C3's. Later years, including your 1976, ran a single inlet pipe into a single restrictive pellotized type cat. which then exited into dual muffler inlet pipes.

Here's what you need for a '70's muscle car sound: A pair of 1974 exhaust pipes, and a pair of turbo type mufflers.

That's all I'm gonna say about C3's here, before I get run off too!

Good Luck

That's exactly what I did on my 76. Great change. Highly recommended. Went to CC and bought the complete kit.

I have the CC 2 1/2" system with Magnaflows. Great sound, perfect fit and less than $350 shipped. Can't beat it........

with the others, replace with a 74 dual system and turbo style mufflers....should sound pretty good.

I still take my car through emissions every year, so I had to go a different route. I was able to unbolt my catalyst and pour the pellets out so it was a hollow can. (I took some liberties with the word 'pour'...). I then re-installed the catalyst so my car will pass the visual inspection.

I have a pair of turbo style mufflers and I really like the way it sounds. Everybody on my block thinks my car sounds better than my neighbor's C5.

Maybe not.

There's still a few of us old farts left around here, that owned and worked on our C3's back in the day.

Quicksilver Vert 01 is correct. Duals would help more than headers, then headers would help.
