Default front end rebuild

Just took apart my front suspension in preparation for a "stage1" rebuild; new ball joints, bushings, idler arm and tie rod ends. To anyone who has done this, should I send out the arms to a machine shop for ball joints and bushings replacement or do it myself? I am technically up to doing the replacement, I'm just wondering if its worth the work? How much would a shop charge to replace the parts in the control arms? I'm in eastern Long Island. Can anyone recommend a machine shop or auto parts store that would handle rebuilding the control arms.

thanks in advance, john

Forget that. Just buy control arms from a vendor here on line (I used VanSteel). You will get powder-coated springs & control arms. The control arms will have new bushings and ball joints installed. They will be easy to install and will look great for a long time.

It is good to take the A arms to have the bushings pressed out and to have the new ones pressed in. I have done this in the past but you risk damaging the A arm. As far as the ball joints I just drilled a hole in the center of the rivet then used a grinder to grind off the head and used a center punch to knock out the rest of the rivet.
Good Luck!
