Hi N1,
The car looks very good in the pictures, what's it like in real life?
I don't know about built engines so I can't comment on the engine/trans.
Although the car looks well taken care of, the rust precautions should still apply.
Regards,
Alan
You are all over the span of C3s with what you are asking for opinions on. Do you have any idea of what you are looking for? Last few were a mix of BB and SB, 4-speed and automatic bumper cars.
Maybe you could narrow down your search by deciding what it is you want.
I would find out where she's at....
Have someone in the area ready to do an inspection.
Take her for a test drive to your nearby contact and go from there...
(local shop with hoist)
I think within minutes your contact(with corvette knowledge & mecanically inclined) would be able to tell ya if its a go !
Thats the steps I would take....
She does look good !
Fresh paint sparks lots of questions. Beware !
Lots of folks buy on "appearance" and get burned on the "hardware". It looks nice...but in what condition are the mechanical components of the car? Is the frame/birdcage rusted out? The paint is 'shiny' from 10 feet; how does it look up close? And the price is pretty steep for a '76 coupe with a non-matching/non-factory engine. If you can get positive answers to all of those questions, it might be a decent purchase for $8-10K. Any negative findings would end up costing you even more money.
It does seem like a lot of money for the car and the reserve is not met.
Who says 400 hp? Bogus claims like that would make me very nervous.
Look at c3's for sale. I have seen nice examples fairly priced. The list of replacement parts needed on a hastily bought car can be scary.
Thanks everyone...thats why i am here asking questions, I know I am all over the place....what I want is a good C3 under 17k that I dont need to work on every second. I bought my C5 brand new and didn't need to worry about all these problems, so, if someone knows of a good car in or under this price range, 4 speed or auto, please let me know
There is an extra Corvette insignia dingy on the drivers side door. Looks like it is covering a Hand crank hole?
In my opinion that is a huge carburetor for a stock 350 motor. Who is to say it is not 400hp?
That car would fetch 12-15k in the Mid Atlantic. Not sure where everyone else lives. Mind you that is high dollar, good vehicle for this type and year. The car does not look like it is in bad shape. The paint looks nice in the pictures. Look at all the bushings. If any of the rubber on the suspension is cracked, it is most likely original. Look at the A-Arm bushings. Take it for a drive and make some "good" hard turns. If you feel the rear end swing like a craine you will join the new suspension club here. All, of these cars are gonna need some help, or something is not going to be to your taste.
Take a friend with you. Make sure you start the car when it is cold and look for smoke.
I am not sure, but from the pictures, the luggage rack appears to be mounted 1-2 inches back too far. It just sticks out but it may be the picture. Since it was dealer installed, they may have been mounted differently by different dealerships...who knows.
In this price range the clock better be working. That tells a lot whether anyone working on the car had any attention to detail.....
Everything so slick and high performance, and they put those crap tires on it, what a joke, I see it at car cruise's all the time, $50,000 street rod and it has $50.00 tires on it. Besides that it looks pretty slick. I think they said at the bottom 12k on the complete rebuild. Maybe if its ALL slick and new inside and out, and UNDER.. but its still a lot for that year, but if you want all new condition, and it really is all that, might be what your looking for.
Cars are an emotional buy, especially Vettes. I have bought 4: a used 86 (nice car), new 90 (couldn't afford it), a 70 coupe with LS6, and my current car, a 68 L36 Roadseter (at least $50K invested). If I ever buy another, I will make sure I get the car I want. It will probably take a year to find the right car. By the way, in today's market, the buyer is in the driver's seat. Buy the best car you can afford; you will be way ahead. That's my experience...
